Family Tradition
I grew up working for my family business, Rene Houde Wallpapering and Painting in the Ft. Meyers, Florida area. My father made sure I learned every aspect of the business. Beginning with keeping the job site, tools and equipment clean and organized, I worked hard to learn every skill our company provided. I learned both interior and exterior painting. I showed a talent for faux finishing and our business added this to it offerings.
I benefited from our families years of experience in running a successful business and learned the skills necessary to manage large projects with multiple crews from a young age. I learned to schedule projects and work closely with homeowners to provide the highest quality work while still meeting budgets and completion dates. I also learned to keep detailed and accurate records for home owners, builders, remodelers, architects and contractors.
Construction
In 2003 I got a job with Harbourside Custom Homes in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Harbourside Custom Homes is a very quality-conscious construction company. I started working under the supervision of very skilled and experienced older craftsmen. This gave me the opportunity to learn skills and techniques I could never otherwise have learned.
Based on my previous experience in our family business, I was given the position of superintendent. I was recognized for my initiative and follow-through. I was given increasing responsibility to manage and coordinate the construction of multiple luxury custom homes. My responsibilities included all facets of construction management, scheduling and coordination among the various crews, subcontractors and inspectors. I was responsible for ensuring that all stages of construction adhered to the blueprint, while coordinating with the homeowners for a high level of customization.
I personally inspected at the end of each job and completed or corrected any of the little things that did not match up to the homeowner’s expectations. The job was not considered finished until this "Punch List" was completed to the homeowner's satisfaction.
I also conscientiously supervised site safety and quality control, resulting in lower insurance and liability costs. I maintained a 100% customer satisfaction.
In 2005 I had the opportunity to work for A. Vernon Allen Builder, Inc. in Naples, Florida.
A. Vernon Allen builds custom luxury homes in some of the most exclusive areas of South Florida. Their reputation for quality, luxury and craftsmanship has been featured in Architecture and Design magazines. They are very particular when adding workers to the team and I feel privileged to have worked with them as a Superintendant. My primary responsibility was to provide "unparalleled customer service with uncompromising attention to every detail." I was given increasing responsibility to manage complex multimillion dollar construction projects. I ensured all of the homeowners’ personal property was protected. I acted as liaison between homeowners and A. Vernon Allen employees, subcontractors, architects, decorators and suppliers to maintain our standards of quality, craftsmanship and customer service.
My responsibilities also included selecting subcontractors, screening and interviewing personnel and purchasing materials and inventory. Projects used complex plans featuring advanced building techniques. It was my responsibility to understand how mechanical, structural, and architectural drawings worked together, assisting all our teams to work together smoothly, meeting construction goals.
In this position also, I personally inspected at the end of each job, to complete or correct any thing not up to our high standards. The "Punch List" was always completed to the homeowner's and architects satisfaction.
Moved to North Carolina
In 2007, my wife and I relocated to Hendersonville, NC to be close to her family.
I started a small construction company, focusing on providing the same quality and attention to detail I had delivered for A. Vernon Allen. I was able to build a successful business focusing on quality, customer service and good communication with each homeowner.
I use Google tools to allow the homeowner to monitor all stages
of construction, tracking all expenses. I developed a network of local
subcontractors and tradesmen, engineers and draftsmen to complete major
construction jobs with a Construction Concierge outlook.
I successfully maintain a 100% satisfaction rating and good standing
with the BBB.
